Scene D Repurcussions

Bostonikov, Dirt City, 1936 to 39
Minor Event 8, Cambridge, May 17th

- Following the Butchers’ attack on Bostonikov that resulted in the destruction of the Lysfaenn, Lisabet De Lacey invited allies of Bostonikov to attend a wake, or perhaps party, to mourn the dead.

- Of particular note attending is a male Jay claiming to be Elsie. Investigation yields that he is in fact Elsie’s bartender… seemingly believing he is Elsie. Much confusion abounds.

- The Loon Isambard is reunited with his wife, violently.

- Pahl’Munn attends, with a gift for Alfie. Once assembled, the present turns out to be a pink Idea robot named Chemical Dependency, Chemmy for short. She loves to smoke Nightmare.

- Unsurprisingly, Pahl’Munn tells a very long story about the history of Winged and the Saurids’ origins. In exchange for Resources, Pahl’Munn sends Captain Peep and some others on a  Jaunt - preventing a mugger killing a fictional child’s parents, the group are successful.

- Other guests include Pablo’s betrothed Pippi, ex-MINITru operative Beta, and a Dove from the Pillars of Light.

- Uninvited, Crowley attends. Approached about his “magic”, Crowley teaches Whyam how to construct a magical circle of binding, protecting those inside. Later, Aveophage also attends uninvited, seemingly following her orders to hunt for Cats. No-one reacts well, attempting to take her down, but she keeps reforming. Whyam traps himself and her in the magic circle… and soon realizes what a bad idea that was. An idea is put forward that every Winged sacrifices a small amount of life to Aveophage to satisfy them, but no Kings agree. Crowley reprimands Whyam on that foolish use of power...
- A mystic lady dreamer returns to lead a Seance. Questions are asked to “The First Thing that Died”, but no good answers are retrieved - the “statues” needed to “fix the cage” have long been destroyed, and alternates must be sought.

- A familiar grey rabbit attends, drunk and lamenting his violent job of entertaining Dreamers. “Elsie” and Olora look after him, Olora even inviting him to stay at Bostonikov. Pendleton sang to imbue the Bunny’s Dreamer stories with traces of Despair, reminding his viewers of the finalitya nd despair of death, war, and huge ACME bombs...

- Captain Peep performs a ritual, and summons the Lost warrior, Coallus, Prince of Long Shadows. Using two keys, she unlocks the chains around his neck, causing explosions of blinding light - once she is done, he is seemingly freed from whatever servitude he was forced into. Unsure what to do next, he asks advice on what he should do - some think he should help the other innocent Lost, some ask him to “return” to the Parliament. He asks for time to think, and seemingly has a close relationship with Captain Peep.

- Alfie challenges Coallus to a fight. It is amazingly one-sided, with Coallus not only terrifying Alfie, but also seemingly immune to physical attacks. A blast of Shadowy fire destroys Alfies hammer, Henry the Oppressor, and Coallus is utterly shocked that he can hear Alfie’s hammer talking.

- Rosie, a riveter, comes looking for aid in investigating the Lysfaenn’s crash-site. A group assembles to investigate, but only Olora and “Elsie” get through. Their inability to fly the Duckfoot plane results in firing it’s crane rocket and damaging the Peace Ray. An Angry alfie manages to get in and eject “Elsie”. At Lysfaenn, they discover the survivors refuse to rejoin Bostonikov, believing that Bostonikov never cared for them, and that they think Bostonikov may have Cat connections. They collect fancy tools and rivet-guns from a  factory, and Alfie makes friends with a talking Factory named Trumpington, who they befriend by feeding him Chemmy’s Nightmare smokes. Rosie decides to stay behind, rebuild and bring hope to Lysfaenn.

- Not long after, the Duckfoot plane is seen leaving towards the River - it returns in terrible shape, seemingly needing extensive repairs.

Scene Q Repurcussions

The Fugue, 1936 to 39
Minor Event 7, Conpulsion, Edinburgh, April 26th

- Pahl’Munn assembles an emergency meeting of Parliament: a silver wave of *something* has spread from the River, and is now encircling the Dream. It is rising and spreading - if it successfully hits the Parliament, the Dream’s heart, it will cause something disastrous...

- Outside the Dream, huge creatures of the Fugue can be seen, wildly active. These “Striders” appear to be blank silhouettes of white blankness, deprived of detail or purpose.

- The Dirt construct an Artefact to discover what the Wave’s purpose is. They discover it is a weapon of “The Above”, named “Pollution”, amongst other info. It appears to be a byproduct of Desire, and is mostly comprised of the same Emotion.

- Pahl’Munn thinks a missing Dreamer pilot (knocked into the Fugue by the Gate’s rubble) can help. In order to help him, he challenges the Raptors to help in another jaunt first…

- A Crimson-Citizen spy for Guild Vulpidae comes looking for help - apparently some massive tree has sprouted from where Lodge Prime was believed to have once been. The tree is glowing and rising uncontrollably into the abyss, threatening to break the edge of the Dream. The Raptors and a White Hand priest explore the tree, discovering it to be something from ancient Dreamer myth, resurrected by Dreamers of the “Guide”.

- Fighting past huge monstrous squirrells, a strange branch designed for crucifixion and sacrifice of the eye in exchange for power, they find a mournful moon-faced creature, a failed “god” who only wants to help children. With his help, the Winged confront the Guide’s Mystics and their plan - to place the tree, acting as a dimensional bridge to far-away, inside a woman’s mind. The ritual is destroyed, the mystics sent cartwheeling into infinity, and the tree is bound inside the lady’s mind, harmless. All that is left over is a gift from their moon-faced ally - a winged, flying chair carved from the tree’s ancient wood, now in the possession of The Raptors...

- This seems to have been Pahl’Munn’s plan, as once three Winged are sitting on the chair, back at the Parliament, it flies off to the Fugue, depositing a puffin, a pigeon, and Warra-Warra the Kookaburra unceremoniously outside a cave in the Fugue. Dodging Striders, the Winged find the burnt trail of the missing pilot, and a cave filled with flittering confused souls and emotion, slumbering Striders (who briefly gain features and personalities when they consume a Soul) - the biggest, friendliest of the Striders is protecting the pilot, who is soon back on his feet after some marvellous medicine. Experimenting, Warra-Warra with help bestows the friendliest Strider with lots of Love, turning it into a walking embodiment of Love (resembling a big happy Kookaburra) - possessed by some great purpose, it runs off to save the Parliament.

- Pahl’Munn helps Selima the duck, who has hypothesised that Despair might help against the Desire wave. Meanwhile, the White Hand Priest attempts to change the Wave’s fundamental nature… but is suddenly cut down. Many think that a trio of ex-MINITru Jackdaws are responsible, but nothing is done or proven…

- The Dirt erect a mighty, one-use dome over the Parliament. Around the same time, others begin to notice their songs fail to work...

- Jocko the Robin has planned to change the Dreamer’s perception of nature, wishing to help and enjoy it rather than take it for granted. With help from a plucky Puffin, he is wildly succesful, rechanneling the Wrath created into the Big Friendly Strider, turning it into an embodiment of Love of Nature. Arms out, it stands in the way of the wave…

- As the tide diminishes, the Winged discover they have been successful. The parliament is unscatehged, the Dreamscape is dirty yet unchanged, the Pollution Wave is visibly weakened, and the Big Friendly Strider dances away...

Act IV Repercussions

The Storm, 1936 to 39
Major Event 6, EOCC, Oxford, March 22nd

Outside in the Dream, a huge army is gathering. At the very furthest end, the pinnacle, the very Source of The River, emerging from beyond the floodgates, comes a colossal dark wave… millions upon millions of black and filth clad Butchers swarm out, flowing viscously like some terrible ooze… they sweep unrelentingly in two directions… half towards the Shade, intent on consuming the Ministry of Truth at the heart of the Mourning Veil… and all around it... the other half flows towards the Dirt City of Lonaricago, aiming at something in its’ walls...

The Parliament is gathered in the Storm, under the huge silhouettes of three Raptor Castles. The mechanical Locos, adorned with Owl symbolism. The senatorial city of House Aquilla, with gold eagles on red banners. Most recognisable, the lightning streaked Schloss Wittgenstein, protected by the huge statues of fallen heroes Hans, Torstig & Angernon, the ancient Tower D’Bubos, and above it the crackling storm clouds obscuring the silhouette of the imperious Gryphon. The long shadow of some huge, incredibly fast flyer occasionally streaks the Lost-horde-laden ground...

Pahl’Munn opens the Parliament, aided by his ally Jacko. Imploring the gathered Coteries to be careful in their infringements of the newly redesigned Laws, Pahl’Munn seems to be determined to make sure rules are followed carefully… even if his reading differs to others, clashing with the Raptors. Pahl’Munn assigns two Bailiffs to aid the Jurors in generally being observant of the Parliament’s laws - Benny the Gull and King Gustav Wittgenstein.

The winning Conductor is the returned and somewhat broken Lord Ezra Lovelorn, who shows an unstoppable ongoing dedication to the protection of the Mourning Veil and enforcement of the Parliament’s rules. The Best Overture Award goes to the Wavefarers.

Melody Harmony, the Moorhen of The Glorious Imperium, seems to be trying to recruit for a new Cotery… somewhere between the needs of the River and the ambitions of the Dirt… this seems to have something to do with the many silver tributaries and beautiful shining visions recently attributed to the River and its swelling banks once the floodgates of Desire opened…

Previously claimed for the Parliament by Elector Ferdinand, The Mirror found inside The River’s Source is inspected by many of the Parliament. It appears to be fractured many times over, only reflecting certain people, and displaying strange dark and glowing figures. Many try interacting in different ways, some contemplating to destroy it, some trying to steal it… until after a long period of time Caroline the Loon manages to repair it. The images vanish, the cracks fade, and the Mirror becomes little but a strange, alien artifact...

Beta, a Jackdaw Rep at MINITru Lodge Alpha comes to help the Mourning Veil, asking for a  confidential meeting regarding MINITru’s future… and the fact its existence threatens the mortality of the entire Mourning Veil...

Pippi, a Shag Berserker, comes looking for Pablo, demanding a rematch… considering he previously shot her with a cannon. He wins easily… and almost instantly proposes a marriage, seemingly swiftly over his whirlwind romance with The Great Ress.

The Wavefarers meet with the First Wavefarer, The Mariner Hesperonis, who offers them an ultimatum. With the decision riding on Captain StubbleJaw, the choice is made... the Mariner instead seems delighted at the choices made. With his help, the Wavefarers are ready to explore the innards of The Great Kraken Davey Jones, the Wavefarers’ Archnemesis, in search of a Great Evil...

An Agent Of The Above offers aid with a small price...

Two Dreamers, Alan & Julius, appear to discuss the Cage. Alan sees it as a puzzle that can always be solved, and Julius sees the prize within as something that can be claimed and controlled, no matter its’ destructive payload or tenacity to explode…

Razia, servant of Brufus of The Under-Barrier, comes looking for Pablo to pay back the gift she gave him in the fight against K T L U - seems the Under Barrier has been under threat from a  group of dangerous insurgents… who should never have existed, cryptids created by the Barrier Crimson’s life-giving properties altered by the Ningen’s assault. Like the Ningen, the Cryptids were attempting to escape past the Barrier into the Waking World. The group learn much about the Under-Barrier, the Founders, and the Cryptids, whose feathered Saurian leader would rather commit suicide than speak…
Of note amongst the Cryptids are two winged, a devilish succubic Owl capable of breathing fire, and a glowing majestic Peacock composed of blue light… also, an armoured Piscid named the Coelacanth who had already ventured into the Waking World and not returned...

Two creatures, named Gore and Bile, supposedly summoned by the Red attack the Red & Wavefarers…

Secundus and Tertia of House Aquilla meet with the Raptors et al to discuss The Guide and his growing power. More must be done - bigger and more powerful than before, more of the same is not enough. As will be seen later, this is seemingly a success...

The Dirt have difficulty reaching their Patron…

A mixed group of White Hand White-Pigeon Monks and Pillars of Light Cultists from come to thank the Dirt for saving them from a nasty situation in Lonaricago, something the Dirt are utterly unaware of… They come to an agreement, the Dirt obtaining a relic from the White-Hand’s Science Monks in exchange for something else...

A creature of The Above recruits The Raptors to destroy a clean energy source for The Dreamers, resulting in destroying a Dreamer airship…

Bostonikov’s ally Tes comes with an ultimatum and an offer...

A Swan-Shaped-Artefact comes looking for the Riverstates, taking them on a Jaunt to the Source, where the fate of Donafon is revealed and the terrifying truth behind the Above & Below is witnessed…

Out of nowhere, a Dirt scientist from Lonaricago appears to recruit Bostonikov in a mission of great importance - a time anomaly has prevented the correct turn of events in Lonaricago unfurling, creating a paradox. The Dirt of Bostonikov have to go to Lonaricago to save the Doves they have already made a deal with… before they make a deal with them… brains are hurt and gangsters are defeated...

MINITru reps from Lodge Alpha come to talk to the Mourning Veil - due to limited Availability, only King Kwan of House Tearfall is available. He deftly puts all of MINITru’s worries to rest, and with no other option but to sacrifice the life of every living being in the Mourning Veil, the MINITru is disbanded and every Jackdaw is recruited into House Tearfall. Kwan is warned this will displease the Highfather, the head of MINITru Lodge Alpha, greatly…

Kutter, a “Used Lantern Salesman” from Lonaricago is selling “honestly sourced” wares. When the legitimacy of his goods is questionned, he uses a Lobster Artefact to escape amidst terror and confusion. Stalwart Goose Maverick Lionheart chases him down, but Kutter gets away…

The Great Beast Crowley returns, spreading talk of Peace and Bliss, aided by his kind and compassionate ally Austin…

As the Below’s Butchers start to amass and flood into the Mourning Veil, an opportunity presents itself to enter the fabled MINITru Lodge Zero. Artefacts are reclaimed…

The Wavefarers explore the insides of the Kraken, discovering that it is infact an artificial creature made of millions of Souls, merged together and bloated on Adventure. The Kraken’s Dark Heart, a black orb crackling with dark lightning, is liberated through the efforts of Dekker and his allies, though they are forced to kill fleshy duplicates of the Wavefarer Martyr Bloodreaver and the recurring evil of Nook Ceta, the brain behind the Ningen’s slaughter. The Dark Heart escapes into the sky, bouncing repeatedly into MINITru’s huge gates, trying hard to enter the Colour Abyss…
As a result of the Kraken’s death and the heart’s liberation, all Krakens have been seen fleeing or exploding into Souls...  and the Mariner’s hearty laugh rippling over the stormy sea...

The Butchers of The Below fall on the Mourning Veil, determined to destroy the MINITru, as agreed… however almost in the blink of an eye, the MINITru lodges vanish, dissolving into the darkness of The Shade’s cities… which soon join them, fading into shadow… confused and aimless, the Butchers are forced to back away and join the armies attacking the Dirt…
For a moment, the Mourning Veil claim they can see two enormous figures in the sky… twin Ravens… a surly male in black, and a cheery woman in white, holding hands… before vanishing like the MINITru before them… The Shade itself turns bright, and soon the entirety of the Shade is untraceable on any map, unfindable by any eye...

A random Winged attends, and suddenly attacks with a knife proclaiming himself a Cuckoo of the “Red Hand”. He is soon killed by Pokatua...

Madame Aveophage, Voice of The Below arrives with Butchers in tow, to arrange the next three peoples to die in the Below’s Great Consumption. Only one faction is agreed - Cats, and the Below are happy to do this. Pablo attempts to stab and kill Aveophage, but she vanishes before he has the chance - she returns a moment later, demanding payment from Ezra Lovelorn for the assassination attempt. Ezra has nothing to give… but his “son”, Brick (supposedly a baby Gargoyle), and amongst tears, tragically hands over the “child”...

Alissa, a Dreamer thinker, spreads the idea of Objectivism to Eduardo & friends…

Hue & Ment, two allies of Chroma and members of the mysterious Xenos “Aurora”, come looking for Eduardo. They leave disgruntled…

Out of nowhere comes a facsimile, or perhaps a revenant, of Great Albatross Hero Bloodreaver, who laments his death, violently. His soul is no longer intact. A fight breaks out, and he is silenced.

Titus demands a duel with Hood of the Red for the attempt against her life previously - Pokatua takes Hood’s place, and Baron Albrecht Titus’. Despite his rage, Pokatua is killed, upsetting many. He returns through Pahl’Munn’s power, only long enough to say his goodbyes…

After many attempts to rescue the Soul of Gull-turned-Crow Dawn, Maggis aided by Dekker & Captain Captain are finally successful! They are able to turn a Crow back into a living Winged!

Ernst, The Guide’s chosen expert on both The Winged and Exploration, has a strange metal statue. He trades it in exchange for being introduced to many, many kinds of Winged, their habitat and behaviours…

The Baronet of Ancoats, ally to both The Guide & The Duke, two powerful Dreamers, leads a group of fascist warriors in an attempt to assess Parliament. His intense hate angered Pablo, and resulted in a fight, with Ancoats stabbed by Pablo.

Crowley & Austin return, preaching Bliss…

Suddenly, far above the Parliament, the Gate blocking off The Colour Spiral explodes. Some claim that the Dark Heart of the Kraken blasted its way through. Others claim Wavefarer ships were seen firing upon it. Others describe a huge image appeared amongst a colossal blue explosion, like a white and blue bird-creature with a stupidly happy face…

Now it is no longer obscured, the Colour Spiral can be clearly seen… and it is shocking to behold. Much, much bigger than before, the Spiral is not only brighter and bigger, but closer. The swirls of colour have begun to separate, and in the centre of the coloured orb is a colossal shape, golden light occasionally blaring through the cracks between coloured swirls...

Soon after, some claim to have seen a (relatively) small shape escaping the Cage in flight… until there is a sudden explosion of green flames. Half the Cage is consumed, exploding rapidly, before the flying shape too is consumed...
Others claim to have seen a giant monkey, but that’s dumb.

The huge Below army, now numbering millions, charge in attack on the Dirt city of Lonaricago… or would do, if the City didn’t suddenly glow alight with burning white light, pinning the Below in utter shock and surprise, as they are pinned between Lonaricago and another circling Dirt city, presumably the much smaller Bostonikov. The newcomer city suddenly unfurls a colossal weapon, an impossibly tall and long glittering metal cannon. With a deafening explosion of electrical discharge, the cannon fires, briefly filling the sky with blissful twinkling lights… before suddenly every Below stranger is knocked back by a wave of force, ripped apart and torn into pieces. The Butcher army is annihilated. As swiftly as the cannon appeared, the smoking shaking cannon is gone, the city speeds away, Lonaricago’s blinding light vanishes, and the wounded remnants of the Butchers retreat in fear...

The Parliament is suddenly graced with the presence of Highfather Prime himself, an ancient Crow who ran MINITru, flanked by his Crow entourage. Devastated, angry and seething at his creation’s destruction, he takes his rage out on the Mourning Veil, revealing his madness and fury. Baron Albrecht fights the monster to the Death, brought close to dying in the process.
With the Highfather’s death, the Parliament begins to fade & close...

From the Source of the River come more armies. Another massive Below army of Butchers, even bigger than before, meet up and subsume the Lonaricago remnants, marching and swarming back at the Dirt cities. Troops not seen before join them: huge Butcher giants dripping and toppling like waves of oil carry executioners’ axes, winged demonic gargoyles made of both black slop and stone screeching into the sky, their heads replaced with gleaming bird skulls. And at their centre, a huge construct resembling something between a factory, a cathedral, a tank and a huge beetle, its many towers, parapets, spires and chimneys belching darkness into the sky. It scuttles on many metal and stone legs, leaving a slick trail of black oil, its many cannons firing plumes of dark flame into the sky, a single huge red glass eye illuminating the brickwork that makes most of its huge lumbering frame. The Factothedral and its army marches on the Dirt, seemingly searching for Bostonikov… shots and plumes of black fire at the escaping city… the companion city of The Lisfaenn torn to pieces, raining down into the Dream’s scape… hundreds of militant Pigeons murdered, many more homeless and sent scattered into the world...

New, silvery shapes emerge from the Source - floating, spinning discs lined with blue lights, tall silvery rockets hanging at angles, ready to fire, and tri-eyed tripods spewing silver smoke. Glowing white, angelic silver figures march in their thousands, floating above the River’s reflecting surface, walking on air. They gather around the Frozen Vale, the home of the reformed Articana, many blue lights and white explosions aimed within before a terrifying calm. Witha  horrid bone-splitting crack, the Vale breaks like an egg, before being obscured in a silvery dome. The Above army waits, unmoved. The first rockets and lights fire, streaking reflections across the River’s surface… at the Glorious Imperium. They connect, and once the silent, heavenly light fades… the Imperium’s sister Cotery of Moldwyr Court is nothing but a crater in the broken metallic surface of the River, the ancient home of the Kingfishers utterly wiped away, hundreds killed. Many are rescued, both the Kingfishers of Moldwyr and Lost fleeing from the Vale.

A third army, amalgamated of both Above & Below, emerges from The Source, ready to siege another Cotery… however, some observers note how they exit in smaller and smaller numbers… along with some rumours about the Mirror, many think these may be the very last of the Above & Below... for now…

As the armies travel, more and more rumours are heard. Despite the fact it cannot be found, some people say that the adventurous and extreme Choughs have returned to the Mourning Veil. Talks also spread of burly blacksmith corvids travelling from Cotery to Cotery selling weapons and goods… apparently answering to the title of ...Crows. Living, breathing… Crows…

Outspoken Bishops of the White hand have stated that the White Hand sees itself no different to its cousins in the Dirt - as do the cultist Pillars of Faith, who thank the threatened Bostonikov for saving them. As a result, many more Pillars and Hand are seen amongst the Dirt cities, claiming they are one Cotery now… Many show confusion, displeasure and anger at this - many don’t trust the Pillars, most Hand consider the Dirt too violent, and many Dirt think the Hand too cowardly…

From the Mists of the River come hordes of feudal villages, led by… Kingfishers? No, greater than that… Kingfisher Kings… Noble leaders and seekers of truth… Fisherkings. Allied with many runaway Moorhens and gypsy storks & Herons, they join the Glorious Imperium. Also, a  number of Gooses show admiration for the Goose heroes Carla & Pablo, and return to the Goose College of Lambda Lambda Lambda to train as Goosanders, Goose Bishops.

Rumours spread of the rapidly expanded Colour Spiral… there was a great uprising against the Gates in the Colour Spiral. In the Silver Bazaar, riots have broken out, with many of the more militant Xenos trying to take control. The Parrot Intelliogocracy has declared itself incharge, and started a great wave of technological and archaeological missions, originally in search of something to break the Winged’s Gates. The Intelligocracy has taken things into its own hand - any Xenos not showing signs of “Advanced Wisdom” is deemed useless and forced into manual labour.

Many of the indigenous civilizations have been uprooted and forced out of their habitats - the Hummingbirds and Quetzals, once ancient enemies, have become necessary allies in order to keep the Parrots out of their Bronze Hedron Cities - apparently there are secrets there the Parrots want. A lone City has become rogue, supposedly run by the child-like Potoo.

The “Unwise” are attempting to fight defensive guerilla battles against the Intelligocracy’s Cassowary enforcers, but it will only be time before the Unwise fall. There is also a mysterious fourth side, a shadowy organization known only as the surprisingly unthreatening “Aurora”, supposedly a coalition of rich underworlders using crime and resources to manipulate all other sides.
And to top all this, all eyes turn to the Waking World, beyond the Barrier Crimson, where the sky is filled with fire, man no longer stopped in their search for flight by The Gates. The sound of explosions and gunfire is deafening, and increasing...

Scene Z Repercussions

Lonaricago, Dirty City, 1937
Minor Event 6, LARP Awareness Party 2014, March 2nd, Leicester

Pahl’Muun calls an emergency meeting of Parliament in the Dirt city of Lonaricago. Apparently two Dreamer creators have died, leaving a concept behind, growing bigger and stronger in belief from the Waking World. Pahl’Muun wants this concept located, identified and dealt with.

A new Wavefarer House attend, searching for their lost ship Eyrie, taken off in a mishap by an overenthusiastic Loon...

Aleister Crowley returns, somewhat grizzled and more on edge. He shrugs off attempts to bring up his own machinations, and instead talks of his “magical war” against The Guide, a Dreamer with an army of radical believers.

Pahl’Muun gives Pablo, Carla and Titus the lofty job of revising and editing the Laws of Parliament, to give Parliament more protection, and not to favour or discriminate any Cotery or House. The new laws will be used from Act IV onwards.

Carla undergoes her Rite of Passage, proving her worthiness of The River without ehr martial prowess, and succeeds.

Mad Dack undergoes his Rite of Passage, proving his combined heroism and responsibility to the Wavefarers Superiors, and is awarded with the title of Admiral.
A Dancer, a dreamer who has refused to move on past her death, makes the acquaintance of Pablo, he offers her the aid of the Glorious Imperium…

On Pablo’s request, Pahl’Muun opens a path to help the search for the concept, revealing a grey, faded fantasy world, it’s only colours a smashed emerald city and a crumbling yellow brick road. The path leads to a witch lamenting being replaced by a new antagonist… the concept, revealed as a massive incomprehensible god of fear, all tentacles and undefinable evil, its very presence causing madness...
Clara, a “psychic medium” offers to help name the concept, attempting a seance aided by Crowley. Her strange Dreamer magic seems laughable… until she suddenly screams and convulses, spouting madness directly from the concept. A name is gathered… K T L U…

The seance is interrupted by Hood, who attempts to kill the traitor Titus. Pablo sorts this out, by the book, by the Laws of Parliament. No follow up action is seemingly taken.

Gideon, a dreamer known favourably by Crowley, comes to the gathering looking for Winged willing to help him rescue two men, trapped in eternal despair. It unfurls that the men are the creators, Robert E Howard and Howard Phillips Lovecraft, both trapped in Dreams of Despair despite their deaths. The men put to rest, Gideon is forced to confront his own looming demise, and the good man is taken by a bright light. More information on the concept is gathered - a fictional God, whose terror and popularity have blown its presence out of proportion… Bliss and Desire are its antitheses…

Titus and Pablo motivate the gathering to do something before the KTLU concept grows too large, already causing storms of nightmare and fear across the Dream. Caroline, a loon, designs a device to imbue a weapon with an Emotion’s aura

KTLU grows rapidly in the Tumult, creating whirlpools, storms, and waves of fear, smashing into everything across the Dream, threatening to wash away the Winged’s reality in a tsunami of terrifying destruction...

Razia, an Under-Barrier servant of Brufus, offers a large sum of “Ignorance” Emotion to the gathering in exchange for a later favour - Pablo takes her up on this, and Pablo and Carla use this emotion in Songs, with the aid of everyone present, to channel Bliss and Desire respectively into KTLU. The emotional impact is powerful enough to instantly nullify the threat, calming the broiling Tumult…

KTLU’s exposure to Bliss and Desire does not destroy it, but renders it unthreatening. Still a giant God of Fear, but purely insubstantial, an image, fit only for fiction, cuddly depictions and a cultural meme.

Scene V Repercussions

Minor Event 6, Oxford, December2013
1935, Hosted by Eduardo’s

- Another party is partially hosted by the Crimson Barrier, this time at Eduardo the Toucan’s bar in neutral Tumult territory. Presents are exchanged. Food and drink is consumed.

- House Gustav cause some major problems when it is revealed that King Gustav’s crown has been stolen by Urban Gull Benny. A short period of shouting and violence follows, after which the crown is returned.

- Pahl’Munn, the spirit of Parliament, returns, looking rougher and sicker than ever. In a talkative mood, he speaks at lengths about the origins of the Parliament, the Winged’s ancestors, the Patrons and the Xenos.

- Leslie, a braggart and accomplished Dreamer swordsman comes looking for thrills and challenges. He flirts and fights.

- Messages are sent. Explosive presents are received.

- Maria, a sick and addled Dreamer comes looking for help locating her friend. Poisonned with some strange source, she emits pain and sickness. She is cured, but fades away peacefully not long after.

- House Locos send a Merlin, Nimue, and two Owl observers, Andras and Stolas, to choose a bride for Prince Caldwyr from House Gustav. Grand Duchess Titus is chosen and prepared…

- A strange shining female asks questions…

- A pair of PAleontologists have some discoveries…

- A pair of Dreamer scientists discuss “Wormholes”. When an experiment involving string goes awry (confirming that the waking world is beyond the Crimson Barrier), a party soon goes on a  jaunt to explore a strange “wormhole” outside. They see strange vistas, and experience portentous things…

- A Duel-By-Beak between Ol’Bert and Ms. de Lacey is overseen by Eduardo, arguing over what si a higher priority, the MINITru Gates or the Lost Cage. Eduardo names Lisabet the winner, with the Cage seen as more of an immediate problem...

- Mayor Tunney of Havenholme delivers a curse to Bertie Stannup the puffin, for his part in the ravaging of Dunny-On-The-Rock. A group of Wavefarers go to save Dunny from the Plunderheart Shags still occupying it - a great fight breaks out, during which Great Jarl Einhorn, the Shags’ leader, falls into the Tumult…
The Plunderhearts are either captured or forced to join the new united Wavefarers. New Shag Jarl Gregor takes over rebuilding of Dunny, and Dorabelle the Puffin is promoted to Awk for her actions. As a bonus, the cannons of the Fool’s Errand send the Great awks’ temple crashing into the Tumult.
A pair of MINITru Jackdaws attend to make sure everything is above board...

- Angel & Sandow, two Arthro-representatives from the elusive Empire of Dust attend to discuss diplomacy...

- Representatives of the mysterious “Below” attend, upset that the peaceful pact with the Butchers was broken by the Winged last Parliament. Lady Aveophage, the Below’s mouthpiece, is kind enough to let the Winged choose which of their Coteries will fall to the massive armies of Butchers in which order. MINITru and the Pillars of Light are named as the first two targets, meaning that the Mourning Veil (MINITru’s home Cotery) is under threat, as is any Cotery in whose lands a Pillars temple resides...

- Mr. Smiles, a naughty Jay, gets in a spot of bother with the Dirt...

- Lyas Coldeyes, District 34 Guild Vulpis Attorney returns from the Crimson Barrier, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the Great Sphinx of District 1, a supposed “God” who can answer any question. Six Winged are lucky enough…

- House Aquilla Secretary Quills comes looking for “The Ultimate Joke”...

- A Cassowary friend of Eduardo’s, Croma, comes looking for him…

- Two representatives of the elusive cold-blooded Under-Barrier, Judge Brutus and his apprentice Nessa, attend. They discuss much about the Saurids, Alchimery, and the Patrons...

Intermission Repercussions

Major Event 5, Oxford, October2013
1930-35, Hosted by The Mourning Veil

- Approaching the Parliament’s latest manifestation within the memory cities of the Shade, everyone becomes aware of hundreds of crashed, ruined aeroplanes, a veritable maze of broken dreams, repercussions of The Gate overshadowing the Dream...

- Most Coteries give impassioned overtures, overseen by a strange being resembling a ragged, ancient Winged, calling himself Pahl’Muun, the spirit of Parliament. Pahl’Muun seems even more tired and possibly wounded. The Dirt are recognized, amongst tough company, as the best Overture, and Isolde of House Raptor wins Conductorship. Strangely, Crowley is able to sing an (unpopular) Overture, and Pahl’Muun seems powerless to stop him.

- There are cabaret Mimes, everywhere. And messengers from some places called the “Above” and “Below”

- Elsie hosts a Disappointing Cake competition. The winner is Malihoma’s apathetic fortune cookies.

- The Mourning Veil erect an aura of Despair in the passageway adjoining the three other halls. They name it the Gloom Room.

- Crowley continues to make deals. However,a powerful song is performed to harm his progress. It appears to be successful. How he will react is yet to be seen…

- A party from Raptor House Aquillas give the Raptors & Red a goal - to influence a human dreamer into acts of War and Tyranny. Under the guidance of Tyrannus Primus Aquilla, the two Coteries succesfully create a “Guide” for a new age, to lead a people into bloodshed, tyranny and thunder.

- Donafon the Kingfisher leads a Riverstates group to the mysterious “Source” of the River. What they encounter there is not widely known, but two members return changed: Rico the Duck is now Sabine the Swan, and Ischarrion has become The Wellspring, Avatar of The River. Elector Ferdinand claims a strange Mirror that appears in the Parliament, for the Parliament. It is a large polished-metal mirror, the frame decorated with animal Swans, Xenos, and strange alien creatures unrecognizable. Looking into it shows a dark shadowy mass where your reflection should be… most of the time. It has stayed in Parliament, and can be investigated.
Donafon does not return...

- Two strange “Future Men”, Flash & Buck, come looking for aid to fire The Creator’s remains out into the unknown. They receive little aid…

- Empress Articana returns, heralding the River’s truthful Season of Masks…

- Pallas and Gibbs are obviously murdered in the Parliament by members of The Red. Nothing seems to be done about it. Gibbs and Pallas soon return, temporarily, looking for retribution.

- A group of Pigeons host an eating contest. Many Doughnuts and Cookies are consumed! The pigeons seem very interested in many things’ stability, often commenting what a shame it would be for many things to suddenly… catch on fire. Fights occur.

- An emissary from House Locos comes to discuss matters with House Gustav, looking for answers about missing Prince Caldwyr Locos. He discovers Caldwyr alive and grown in House Gustav, and instead of war, an alliance of Marriage is built between the two. Caldwyr is to be married to a member of Schloss Gustav…

- A large group of Dreamer Criminals attempt to take control of the Parliament. Theya re unsuccessful.

The Plunderhearts look for aid from Captain Jim Ross, while Havenholme’s defenses are organized by… a Rogue Puffin, who swiftly abandons the fleet. Hundreds of Puffins & Cormorants are killed in the ravaging of Dunny, despite Ross’ orders. With their leadership murdered or captured, Havenholme is disbanded.

- A Doctor comes seeking aid, as he is attacked by Faceless Butchers, a familiar scene. Lorri the Urban Swan solves his conundrum… but not before arms are raised against the Butchers, invalidating the previous treaty: the Influenza Butchers, and their disease allies, now see Parliament as Enemies again...

- A woman called “Tes” comes looking for the Dirt…

- A Nutcracker Dean comes looking for Myrrhvynn…

- The Bounty, with Pallas & Gibbs, make a sufficient sacrifice to free the Piscine’s prisoner, the Angler, in actuality the first Wavefarer, the Mariner. There seems to be problems with the Piscine. The Mariner’s release reunites the schismatic Wavefarers… yet loud, booming rumour abounds he is unhappy with Pallas & Gibbs unavenged deaths…

- A Dreamer author named Huxley is haunted by his long dead grandfather. Huxley seemed to be a decent person… who agreed on many terms with the strange Aleister Crowley. His grandfather, meanwhile, was convinced that some Dreamers were naturally superior to others.

- As the Parliament fades, it is noted that owl Theodora does not return amongst her sad compatriots...

Winged: Xenos

Little Penguins

Penguins are seafarers and Ice-Desert survivalists from The Cerulean Deeps, White-Encrusted endless oceans of Exuberance. They believe in Exuberance and Excitement as a form of life, pushing them forward to greater achievements. Rumours of them having connections to Great Beasts from the Infernal Depths are unfounded...

Rockhopper

Rockhoppers are the Penguins' priests of exuberance - icons of excitement and experience. They are connected to the teeming intelligence ot the Ice, the Cyan, the Ocean, maybe the Tumult itself.

Albino Penguin

The Penguins' warrior caste, identified by their pale, scarred plumages - they are the ones touched by th Ice, by the Cyan, to be the champions of exuberance. Fonts of pent up excitement, Albinos are berzerkers of the highest order, delighting in all experience.

Emperor Penguin

Embodiments of the Cyan taken Winged form, Emperors have been changed by the power of Love. They are able to concentrate raw emotion into icy blasts, and exhibit strange... changes. Any relation between the tentacled Emperors and the great Krakens of the Tumult have not been explored...

Topaz-Hands Caste Hummingbirds

They are a Hummingbird, a devout and proud warrior & Violent Soul from the Bronze Ziggurats in the dense Torrid Vermillion Jungles at the centre of the Colour Spiral within the madcap, mayhem world of The Abyss.
The Bronze Ziggurat Cities are made of exactly that: huge bronze ziggurats, some colossal Hedron-like buildings, floating in huge columns amidst rivers of Golden light. This light is the Aurum, the River of Gold, the well of all Souls. The River might think their Stream of Consciousness is important, but the Aurum outshines it. Impossible to truly behold without being blinded, only Sapphire Caste may be permitted to enter it’s sparkling core, and seek audience with the Gods that live within.

Hummingbird Society is split into castes, based on the glittering plumage of the Winged:
Topazes are the slave caste, a sparkling brown or yellow plumage. All Hummingbirds are born Topaz, and must earn a greater caste through a Holy Act, or a great sacrifice, or many years toil. Topazes are expected to give their lives willingly, but many have other ideas. Many have exemplary knowledge of the fine cracks and alleys in the metal work of the cities, and many know great secrets heard from the whispering of the cobbles...

Emerald-Eyes Caste Hummingbirds

Emeralds are the craftsmen, signalled by their sparkling green plumage. Artisans and smiths, they make the weapons & armour for the warriors, great Artefacts for their kings, and keep the Ziggurats afloat. Only they know the secrets of the City’s workings...

Ruby-Blood Caste Hummingbirds

Ruby are the warrior caste, covered in gore identical to their glistening red plumage. Creatures of Holy Violence & Divine Bloodshed, Rubies wield their Macahuitls and shields in offering to the Great Gods of the Aurum.

Sapphire-Lips Caste Hummingbirds

Sapphire are the priests, sparkling blue like the sky to which they lift their offerings, or the water to which they offer it. It is with their Songs that the rain brings crops and the river teems with Emotion. It is, in the cities, only they that have the right to talk to the Aurum at the Ziggurats’ summit.

Fire-Crown Caste Hummingbirds

Firecrowns are the rulers, the Aurum born as man, resplendent in their Gold Plumage. The Fire in their Crown may be misleading - as elements transition from raging fire to mercurial water, so does the tember and view of the Hummingbird. To be the font of Power for the Aurum is to serve as a conduit, ever changing and flexible, yet always divine.
The Topaz work. The Emerald craft. The Ruiby kill. The Sapphire praise. The Firecrowns change. They are as mercurial as the river, as open as the sky, yet as scalding as the flame.
Gods amongst us, they are to be worshipped & followed, all their commands followed as Holy Edicts. Contradictory yet logical, open yet precise, to be Firecrown is to lead with the burden of constant change on your shoulders. We die for their cause, for their offerings, for their amusement if need be.

Kiwis

Following the first Parliament, Great Xenos Hunter Pokatua vowed to serve as Ambassador to The Red. Following that, many Kiwis have joined the Red as Hunters.
Originally from the Veridian Mesa, Kiwis are resourceful and tough Hunters, determined to never lose a prey.

Quetzals

Enemies of the Hummingbirds, the green & red Quetzals claim that they lived in the floating bronze Hedron Temple Cities of the Aurum first. Some terrible war, or fall from Grace later, and the Quetzals operate from ruined, collapsed Hedrons, remnants of both awesome technology & ancient power, left to rot and stagnate. Quetzals have the potential for great power and science if they would just look beneath their own feet... but too many are simply driven by an effort to reclaim the Aurum. Some claim they are the offspring of great, enormous terrible Gods from the Dream... others pick their words more carefully.
Obsessive, opportunistic, arrogant, ambitious. Quetzals thrive on personal gain, but enjoy the look or value of something expensive, rather than it's use. Quetzals do not have a caste system: all Quetzals are equal, although there is a self-designated Senate, where major decisions and quarrels are decided by knife fight. Quetzals often refer to themselves or other as Quetzal, believing they are one, unanimous people with a single great goal - individual names are only used in times of great anger, disappointment, or arousal.
Scarification and piercings are popular among Quetzals.
Rumours of attempts to summon the Avatar of their endless, terrible patron run deep. Although it seems unlikely, a terrible Avatar of Revenge intent on smashing the Bronze Temples haunts the fears of many Hummingbirds...

Pitohui

Known as Hoods because of their common need to cowl-cover their faces, Pitohui are a dark shadow in the Bright Xenos world. Often covering their bright Red & White markings, Pitohui are mercenarial assassins and poisoners, removing threats to the Vermillion Jungles for a substantial fee. Often working for Hoatzin, through Toucans, and wielding Emotion supplied by Kookaburras. Unlike the semi-Mythic Cuckoos, Hoods definetly exist, but there is no exact explanation why.
In a strange twist of fate, Hoods are excellent Poisoners and Corrosive Alchemists. Applied theoretical work between them, and Hoatzin could be devastating.
Rumours that Hoods have relations with the distant Empire of Dust are entirely unfounded...

Emus

Parrots are commonly considered the Scholars of the Xenos, collectors of Stories & Traditions, but Emus & Ostriches are also scholars, of History. Hard Fact. What has happened, who, how and why?

To Emus, life is a series of interesting facts, to be chronicled and recorded. They have a sense of irreverent humour, that belies their otherwise serious nature. Emus sometimes grow nasty claws, rumours abound that they use them to etch facts into stone.
Emus like loose-fitting, dark robes and jewellery. Their prominent colour is a sparkling black. Strangely, the concept of gender seems to be foreign to them, referring to each other by name - individuality & achievement far more important.

Rhea

Rhea are those Emu whose delving into history has brought them closer to their ancestors, sometimes literally. Funerary ritualists, archaeologists and general experts of people past, these scholars find the concept of death fascinating: not the action, or killing, but what happens afterwards, to the Body, Soul, Memory, Belongings, Legacy. Rhea would much rather spend time with an ancient tome, or a mummified corpse, than another Xenos - when out of options, they'd converse with another Rhea, about death. Many Rhea have theories about the Xenos' closely guarded history, although no "papers" or stories have ever exited the parrots' archives - this has led to many rifts between the Rhea and the academic Parrots, who think their delving will uncover madness. Rumours of Rhea associating with, summoning, and even serving Lost are utterly unfounded. Although Rhea celebrate Death - dressing in funeral shrouds and removed plumage, adorning themselves with "memorial trinkets" and speaking on it with excitement - they cannot abide killing: they see Death as the act of coming to an end, to be remembered or forgotten, and intervening in this process can only cause Chaos.
Rhea culture is very basic, as opposed to the otherwise quite advanced and Idea-Song-Oriented Xenos Culture. Rhea live off herbs and distilled Emotion, often developed Alchymerically, much like their Moa ancestors. Their research is very hands-on, quite pre-Renaissance - lots of dissection and exhibition.
Rhea wear an object individual to each person they knew who has ever died. They do not see this as corpse-robbing, but hands-on research. Particularly well studied / elder / unfortunate Rhea are covered in small trinkets.
Rhea, like Emus, don't really do standard gender - they see others as either "Soft" or "Sharp", based on the image and reaction they portray. A Soft person drifts on through life leaving no marks, but a Sharp one leaves a mark. Soft subjects hold no interest for an amorous Rhea.

Ostriches

Competitive and determined, Ostriches are very fast and very strong, with naturally vicious claws. They may seem like perfect Soldiers, but armies do not breed the pure competition that they thrive on. Instead, Ostriches are all athletes: right from their earliest memories, all chicks know exactly what sport or activity they want to be The Very Best at, and spend the rest of their lives excelling at. Sprinting, Hurdling, Discus, Swimming, Pugilism, Javelin, Synchronized Dancing, Weight Lifting, Archery; Almost all sports and physical activities have, in Xenos history, been invented by determined young Ostriches, simply wishing to be the best at it. Sometimes, these sports and challenges become... extreme, as each athlete tries to outdo their compatriots. Sprinting... under threat of fire.
Hurdling... over vicious Aquatic Memory beasts.
Discus... with a bladed disc.
The greater the threat, the greater the challenge, the greater the thrill for all involved: Ostriches love watching sport as much as taking part.
Ostriches let nothing stand in their way, not even disfigurement: the more & more extreme the sports get, the more likely it is to become mauled or wounded. This can lead to lost limbs... but that's never a stop for Ostriches, simply something new to accommodate. These "Alter" Ostriches (to a challenge prone Ostrich, there is no such thing as handicap or disability) are treated no different to any other Ostriches, although it is not uncommon for these Alters to become elders in Ostrich society, known colloquially as "Judges" - it is they that have, hands down, achieved the hardest challenges, and often the most.
Ostriches *never* turn down a challenge: walking away is failing, coming last is... coming last. There's always room for improvement. They are incredibly honourable, sportsmanship being their lifeblood. They like to party hard.
Every time the Colour Spiral rotates a "Silver Moon" (A phenomena occurring from light coalescing around the Golden Stream of the Aurum), the Toucans and Ostriches ally to host and run the Argentum Games in the centre of the colossal Silver Bazaar. A huge series of sports games, winners of each game are lauded and celebrated, and even "losing" participants are showered with respect. The great finale comes in the form of the mind-blowingly dangerous Tetrathalon. Those who... do not "finish" the four challenges are given a Hero's funeral, complete with ecstatic parties.

Peacock

Who would dispute the rightful thrones of the Magnificent Peacocks? Dressed in gleaming blues & greens of only the most expensive threads, these masters of sword & bow, these righteous Princes are adored as bon-vivants and happy rulers of the beautiful Dawn Lakes of the Xenos. Their plumage always on show,a celebration of their birthright. Just and beloved Princes, although lofty in their position, the Peacocks adore parties and celebrations, a chance to mingle and show-off. Cocks surround themselves with harems of Peawives, and the finest Flamingo fashionistas, only the best for these glorious Maharaja (or even Maharanee). They are fascinated by the Winged of the Dream, and if not eager to directly ally, are at least eager to entertain and learn from them, experimenting in wearing Winged Fashion and experimenting with Winged ways & sports & games (to the ire of their Flamingos).
"Cock" and "Wife" do not directly relate to gender - a Cock is merely the entitled ruler (a holdover from the days before Princess could prove to their Brothers & Fathers that they were Equally Magnificent), and a Wife a beloved member of his circle, a far distant enough relation that it is no longer icky.
Peacocks love jokes. A common prank is to, once every new Wife, sweep up a common member of the Xenos (or now, Winged), and elevate them to Prince for "a day" (With full surprising access to treasure, estate & Wives).

Peawives

Consorts to the Peacocks, Peawives are those Peafowl who have married a noble Prince (Or Princess), and become part of their Harem of Wives. Sometimes these marriages are based on love, sometimes lust, sometimes necessity or arrangement. In front of their Maharaja (Or Maharanee), they are perfection: quiet, patient, beautiful (or handsome), often skilled dancers or singers for entertainment.
However, behind closed doors, outside of the eyes of their Consort, life is very different. Politics impregnate every depth of Peawife Harems, with factions forming based on friendship or necessity, a definite social ladder being erected and constantly fought over. Backstabbing, snide remarks, deadly rumours and even assassination ensure that another Wife might find themselves drop in favour.
Sometimes, in the right circumstance, it is to ensure a child is produced for the Prince, ensuring heirship and thus power for the lucky Wife, and that requires character assassination on behalf of the other prospective Wives...
And Sometimes, when the gender is incompatible, it becomes a race to become the closest of-the-same-gender to the Prince, so that, say, following their untimely death (usually a shaving accident, from behind, with a knife) the Throne defaults to them...
And Sometimes, it is based on true love, either fighting for the reciprocation of your emotions, or simply for the happiness of your beloved, at the cost of your own bliss...

Parakeets

Parrots in training, Research assistants, librarians, students and narrative scholars without a book to their name (yet).
Parakeets are much the same as their more intellectual (and thus, higher-ranking) cousins, only with more excitement, more willingness to explore, get their hands dirty, and ask many, many questions in awkward, dangerous situations. Parakeets find knowledge (and Song) attractive, in both a studious and emotional way. Their new place in the Waveafrers is natural to them, sailing the mysterious tumult ("Exactly how deep is this?"), accompanying nefarious Gulls & Frigates ("So... does that technically belong to you now?"), being waited on by Puffins ("Exactly how much endurance do you have, on a scale of 1 to More?") and encountering mind-boggling Krakens ("Would you describe your appearance as Maddenning? Yes or Yes?").
Parakeets are always looking to uncover a full story never before recorded - Start, Middle and End - so they can pass theirthesis on to the Golden Libraries and achieve the Title of Full Parrot.

Macaws

Top of the Parrot Intelligocracy of the Golden Libraries in the Vermillion Mesa, Macaws are fonts of both Wisdom & Intelligence, geniuses and wisemen. True Sages, Macaws make the most educated and researched decisions they can, often discussing their thinking process out loud. Macaws are not flawless - although in Parrot society it is rude to show-up a Macaw's shortcomings outside of formal procedures (see below) - they will concede being wrong, but in the most fair and erudite way possible.
Ascending The Library is a big deal in Parrot society, and constitutes a great formal occasion. The current Macaw will gladly step down from their position to any contender (no non-Parrot has ever succeeded), if they can prove the newcomer is smarter than the Macaw. This can take any form, from quizzes, to battles of wits, to puzzles. The final decision is always in the hands of the current Macaw.
Macaws don't need weapons. If the Library-Throne-Room of master-swordsman Parrots & Cockateels, and the occasional spear-wielding Cassowary don't stop you, the Macaw, simply willing you on fire, will.

Hoopoes

A Hoopoe speaks only when spoken to: Silence is a virtue that enables those blinded by commotion to see true.
A Hoopoe never, ever stops: a spinning blade does not need to falter, simply change it's trajectory.
A Hoopoe is not to be touched: purity comes without stains of lust or violence, the White Hand are right on this matter.
A Hoopoe is to be enjoyed: the dance never ceases, simply changes it's pace, from the blade's sweeping curve to the jewelled, bell'd hips and stoumach.
A Hoopoe's history is not to be discussed: Colour does not always mean a Spirit who tore at us, choked us & blinded us in the Abyss.
A Hoopoe is to be aided: even two skilled blades need a shield to protect them.
A Hoopoe is to be respected: they have given their all for the Eye.
A Hoopoe is to be trusted: a holy warrior to serve the Condors, Eagles & Falcons.
A Hoopoe is to be denied: they should not want, never want. Their life is to serve as blade & jewel, not take.
A Hoopoe is to be observed from a distance: in fervor, those blades bite whoever is in their way.

Flamingo

Artists and Imagineers, Critics and Snobs of the highest calibur, Flamingo culture is based on image. Immaculate, perfect and without flaw. Deviation from beauty results in being ostracized. New forms of art and beauty are ever rising and falling in Flamingo society, so their hierarchy of image is ever changing. Flamingos only associate with themselves... and only the very elite of other Societies, none of the riff-raff or scum.

To Flamingos, Image, and especially costume & jewellery is everything to these disciples of beauty. They have been known to stop fights and potential diplomacy in order to give the other party a make-over, unable to deal with them otherwise.

Toucan

Traders, dream-engineers, idea-merchants and auctioneers, Toucans can get the Xenos whatever idea, weapon, artefact or device they need. For a price. Toucans flourish as the neutral party willing to host to both sides, but devote to neither. Suave and in demand, highly reliable but absolutely untrustworthy, unless you've purchased their services. Some Toucans eventually make the "right" decision, swayed by morals or an underdog's attitude. Many more don't.

Kookaburras

If Toucans are the traders and engineers, Kookaburras are the suppliers. Somehow distantly related to the River's reliable Kingfishers, Kookaburras are brilliant emotionallists and collectors of every emotion, common or foreign, and even stuff. Only, they have a personality quirk... being exposed to such large amounts of emotion constantly have left them... odd. Whether it's megalomania, rage-driven psychosis, obsessive-compulsion, or all of the above, or a number of other strange quirks, Kookaburras are never entirely all there. This never makes them idiots however, far from it.
Many Kookaburras believe in a view absurdism - treating the world as a joke and laughing at whatever problems come their way.
Regardless of their sanity, Kookaburras often engage in same sex relationships. It's just how they roll.

Hoatzin

Alchemists and Scientists of the Xenos, Hoatzin hold a unique mix of position and mentality. Believing that knowledge of an outcome firsthand is worth far more than mere notes or observation, Hoatzin experiment their new poisons, venoms, drugs and visions on themselves. This results in a Hoatzin acting as host to a number ailments, resulting in the popular view of them as, well, 'pungent'.
Many Hoatzin take the position of beggars and paupers, noting the social reactions to their experiments. This, combined with physical ailments, is the reason for the Hoatzin's common dress of bandages.
Most Hoatzin are content to be practical observers as Scientists, while a few are more willing to take their experiments, especially Venoms, to a wider audience. Talons and Bows are the delivery mechanisms of choice.

Roadrunners

Watching from the pale edge of the Colour Spiral, Roadrunners are envious of the Dreamscape Winged take for granted. Roadrunners want to run free & fast, without the regulations and responsibilities the culture of the Spiral places on them as escorts, caravans and travelling traders. They want to be able to do whatever they want - run, steal, fight, defend, hunt. Most are willing to take freedom in small bursts when and where they can get it, but some break away entirely, following Pokatua's footsteps and running away into the Dream, especially the Fugue, for a life of unrestrained, wild, unpredictable tomorrows.
Roadrunners are fast. Not only in footspeed, but in metabolism, attention span, wit, dodging, gun-drawing, bow-pulling and every aspect of their life. They are fascinated by Idea Technology, especially in any way it might speed up their life, or make it entertaining. Especially pistols, which make a nice alternative to their traditional bows.
Roadrunners enjoy occupations as rustlers, escorts, shepherds for Dream-flock (everything from Nightmares and Crabs, to Human-faced-Screaming-Llamas), bounty hunters, sheriffs, jailers, mercenaries and hired guns. Anything that'll provide an exciting life. Roadrunners like to tell stories around campfires, mostly about the exciting things they, and their ancestors, got up to. Many of these tales are recorded and guarded by Parrots, who claim they now have exclusive rights to them. Whatever. Don't tell them, but 'Runners tell those tales better anyway...

Paradises

The Patrons walk among us. The Paradise is God in Dream, perfection and beauty in all forms, wisdom and omnipotence. The Paradise must never be questioned  so beautiful & flawless - behind the mask, does the flesh even matter? The face of the God is all that matters. That metal carapace is the visage of an eternal, an immortal being to be worshiped and respected. Whoever was before is gone, and the immortal Paradise remains. Every word is gospel truth, every breath an edict. A life to be protected & devoted to, at all costs. When the flesh breaks, The Paradise must live on. Their face must be worn on new flesh, immortality awakened...

Paradises are treated as living Gods. Everything they say and do is treated as the utmost importance and utterly infallible. Many Xenos treat the mask as the important part, knowing that whoever wields it is God On Dream. Others realise the importance is the image - it's not a tool for a bloodline to keep control, it IS the bloodline. The Paradise has immortality, not because it has a constant stream of bodies to wear it, and act it, but because it's image and presence is burned into the minds of it's people forever.
It can't be long until a Paradise's role is subverted, and a Winged attempts to take their place as a new God, or is worn by the broken & angry to lead revolt. The Xenos are not stupid - they can tell when a metal mask rides a different body or speaks a different tone - but perhaps they are faithful enough to follow wherever that image goes...

Harpies

Raptors refuse to accept the truth: Harpies are Eagles, big, proud, ruthless, just, overseeing Eagles. But they are Xenos: Bright, Monochromatic, strange, alien Xenos. So there are far too many questions to be asked, far more questions than simply snubbing them.

Simply put, Harpies are Amazons, big proud unstoppable female warriors and heroic adventurers skilled in axe & bow. Descending from heights, screaming their terrifying warcries and divebombing their prey amid a shower of arrows. To see them in action, you would be forgiven for thinking that they are matriarchal like Moorhens, but it's simply true that their culture is different to ours. Woman are warriors, while men raise the young, teach, record history and cook. Harpies take their gender balance very seriously, with monogamous relationships paired as early as possible: when they reach age, Men must woo their bride with sensitivity and intelligence, while women prove their dexterity strength, stamina & wisdom, usually felling some hideous beast.
Yet still, they are definetly Raptors, Eagles even: they are very fair, charismatic, caring, prone to defending their family & culture with their lives. Whatever links this means, if any, between the Raptors & Xenos can only be speculated...

Cassowaries

What needs to be said. Cassowaries are perfect guards. Debatably, even more so than Geese. Strong, Fearless, Armoured, Resilient, Fast, Proficient with Spears & Swords, Terrorfying. And sometimes able to breathe golden flames. Cassowaries are, simply put, Tough.

But why? Why are Cassowaries like this? Why are they so cruel and heartless compared to their close relatives, the Historian Emus & Ostriches? What do they guard in the Cage? What keeps them so preoccupied? Why are they so strong? What are they prepared for? And on those few occasions, why do they leave? Are they on some mission for the Xenos Patrons? Are they on practicaL leave, fulfilling their hobbies of violence? Do they yearn for more? Does the darkness of the cage trap their feelings too? How do they feel to being separated from the rest of their people? Do they even know? Why do they wear the colour Gold? Why would they rather die than fail? Why do they explode in glory? There are simply too many questions...
Like Emus, gender seems unimportant to the Cassowaries: it is someone's moral achievements, their innocence or guilt, their determination that defines them.

Potoo

The easiest way to describe Potoo is to compare them to Rabble - both are immature, tribalistic, potentially savage but mostly child-like. The difference is that Rabble grow up.

Potoo are recognized by their bright yellow eyes and skin patterns, their savage weaponry, childlike curiosity, and most importantly, their lack of language. It seems Potoo have discarded the use of a common tongue, instead creating their own "idiot speak". Recognized snippets include:

"Babu" - Would you look at that baby!
"Bingabinga" - Repeatedly applied aggression should be able to solve this situation.
"Dabudabudabudabu" - I am withdrawing from this situation in a physical manner, at full speed.

Indeed, it is from Potoo that society has adopted the informal term "Babu" for babies.
Attempts to teach them standard language have resulted in a series of hot, sweaty events in the Vermillion Jungles, culminating in extreme disappointment.
